Set Your Expectations VERY Low

If you set your expectations too high, you are bound to be disappointed. It might very well be tough for a bit of time before you settle in to your new school completely, so keep your expectations at a reasonable level.

Keep a Positive Attitude

When times are a little bit rough, keep thinking about the positives. If you let your positive mindset fall flat, it will be much harder to combat the difficulties you may be facing.

Be Yourself

Do NOT change anything about yourself to try to fit in. You are worthy of friends who accept you exactly as you are. Give it some time to find those friends, and don’t give up if it does take longer than you anticipated.

Ask for Help

It is not easy finding your way around a new school. Don’t be afraid to ask someone for help if you are struggling to find your next class or where to eat lunch. Most people are willing to help you, but they cannot even try if you don’t let them know what your confusion is.

Don’t Bottle Up Your Emotions

Bottling up your emotions is not good for you. If you are scared or lonely or sad during this transition, let it out. I came home from school plenty of times and cried to my mom. I needed the release so that I could compose myself for the next day of school.
